The cultural and creative industry has emerged as a pivotal focus in the country's development strategy. As the first specialized department of its kind in Taiwan, this department holds a significant status and mission in steering Taiwan's cultural and creative industries. Boasting excellent educators and state-of-the-art equipment, the department has achieved balanced growth. Both teachers and students have garnered national awards, attesting to its prestige. Established in 2005, the department was originally named "Department of Taiwan Cultural Industries Management". It was the country's inaugural department dedicated to the field of cultural and creative industries. The department aims to cultivate talents adept at integrating the operation, management, planning, and marketing of cultural and creative industries. These talents will meet the evolving needs of society, bolster the competitiveness of our graduates, and supply the nation with professionals pivotal to industrial growth. In 2017 and 2022, the "Cultural Heritage Preservation and Revitalization Center" and "Placemaking and Urban-Rural Governance" were established, respectively. These centers aim to foster cross-departmental and industry-university collaborations. Their primary focus is on preserving tangible and intangible cultural assets, and addressing local creative challenges. Moreover, the department's professors leverage their expertise to infuse classroom theories with practical industrial insights. The professors integrate international perspectives and local nuances into their teaching methodologies. Their hands-on projects predominantly aid in the development of Pingtung's urban and rural areas, as well as other regions.
